Emilie Marsicek (Spalding, Mich./Carney-Nadeau) and Lindsey Gilman (South Bend, Ind./Marian) competed in the first four events of the heptathlon, while Dustin Lawrence (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence Central) completed the first five events of the decathlon to kick off action at the Hillsdale Gina Relays Thursday in Hillsdale, Mich.

After the first four events of the heptathlon, Marsicek sits in sixth place, while Gilman currently resides in 11th position. Marsicek captured top honors among the competitors in the shot put with a toss of 43'7 ¾", less than a foot shy of the school record she set last week. Gilman's best event finish was a tie for seventh in the high jump, as she registered a mark of 4'10 ½", the fourth-best effort in the event in Crusader history.

Lawrence ranks in tenth place after five of the ten events that comprise the decathlon. His best event finish was a ninth-place showing in the 400m dash.

The three Crusaders will be joined by the rest of the Valpo track and field squads as the second day of competition kicks off Friday morning at 8 a.m. CDT.
