Junior Sarah Drozdowski (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) took first in the hammer throw and sophomore Jessica Richardson (Columbus, Ind./North) placed third in the 10,000-meter run on Friday to lead the Valparaiso women’s track and field team at the opening day of the Horizon League Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Ypsilanti, Mich.
The Crusaders are in second place after the first day of competition with 16 points.
Drozdowski had a best mark of 169’ 2” to take first place by one inch over Milwaukee’s Nancy Harmon. Her distance was Drozdowski’s second-best on the season.
Richardson crossed the line with a time of 37:28.46. Freshmen Sophia Robinson (Downers Grove, Ill./South) and Hannah Schilling (Fraser, Mich./Lutheran North) placed 10th and 11th, respectively.
