Two More Records Set on Day Two of AllTel Classic

After setting one school record on the opening day of the AllTel Classic in Findlay, Ohio, the Valparaiso Crusaders added two more to their record books on Saturday.

The 4x400m relay of Rachel Weide (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead H.S.), Rachel Nelson (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit H.S.), Amanda Meyer (Hudson, Wis./Somerset H.S.) and Maggie Zellner (Downers Grove, Ill./Benet Academy) finished in fourth place with a school best time of 4:08.14. Meyer also set an individual record on the afternoon with her sixth place finish in the 600m with a time of 1:40.40.

Zellner also had a good race in the 200m dash, placing 11th in the field of 74 with a time of 27.22 seconds.

In the distance events, Nelson was runner-up in the 800m run, crossing the line in 2:23.18, just 1.47 seconds behind the winner. The sophomore also took runner-up honors in the mile with a time of 5:13.19. Teammates Amy Mikel (Lemont, Ill./Fenwick H.S.) and Amanda Lee (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon H.S.) also posted top-five finishes in the mile, placing fourth and fifth respectively.

Lee also was victorious on the afternoon in the 3,000m run by nearly three and a half seconds with her time of 10:39.48. Rachel Stoehr (Antigo, Wis./Antigo H.S.) and Jobeth Schmiesing (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West H.S.) finished sixth and seventh in the 3,000m.

Martha Josephson (Detroit Lakes, Minn./Detroit Lakes H.S.) made sure Lee was the only Crusader victor on the afternoon, posting a first place finish in the high jump with a leap of 5'3". Josephson also finished eighth in the triple jump (33'4 ").

Elsewhere on the infield, Holly Hagen (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) placed tenth in the shot put with a heave of 38'7 ".

Most of the Crusaders will take next weekend off from competition, with just a select few individuals competing at the Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind.
