Valpo Women Set Two School Marks at Chicagoland Championships

The Valparaiso women's track and field team set two new school records while finishing in a tie for seventh place at the Chicagoland Championships held in Romeoville, Ill. on Friday evening.

The Crusaders tallied 49 points and tied with Wheaton in the standings, while Lewis, the meet's host won the competition with 132 points. Northern Illinois was second with 87.

Amanda Meyer (Somerset, Wis./Somerset H.S.) won the pole vault with a personal best 10'6". Her mark also set a new meet record. The redshirt-freshman also set a new school record in the long jump, where she finished eighth. Her leap of 16'8" bettered her own previous mark by " set last weekend.

Holly Hagen (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) finished second in the weight throw with a heave of 50'11", also a new school mark The sophomore bettered Tracy Broadstone's 2000 mark of 48'6". Hagen also finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 39'5 ".

On the track, Amy Mikel (Lemont, Ill./Fenwick H.S.) was the runner-up in the 800m run. Her time of 2:18.49 marked a personal best.

In the 400m dash, Maggie Zellner (Downers Grove, Ill./Benet Academy) brought home a third place result with a personal best as well. Her time of 59.55 seconds was less than a second behind the race's runner-up.

The meet marked Valpo's final tune-up for the Mid-Continent Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships that are slated for next weekend. Action will begin on Friday in Sterling, Ill.
