Hagen Sets Two School Marks at DePauw Invitational

Holly Hagen (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) set two school records on Saturday afternoon leading Valparaiso to a sixth place finish at the DePauw Invitational held in Greencastle, Ind.

Hagen set a meet record along with a school mark while winning the weight throw with a toss of 56'5 ¾". She also finished fourth in the shot put with a new school mark of 43'10".

Katrina Roberson (Shelton, Wash./Shelton H.S.) was second in the pole vault, clearing 10'6", to become the only other Crusader to place in the field events.

On the track, Maggie Zellner (Downers Grove, Ill./Benet Academy) finished third in the 400m dash with a time of 59.45 seconds, a season's best.

A pair of Crusaders scored for the Brown and Gold in the 3,000m run. Jobeth Schmiesing (Mankato, Minn./West H.S.) finished fourth with a time of 10:54.45, while teammate Ashley Billstrom (Hales Corners, Wis./Whitnall H.S.) was seventh, crossing the line in 10:58.16.

Rachael Button (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington H.S.) finished sixth in the 5,000m with a time of 18:43.79, while Tami McDunn (Farmington, MInn./Farmington H.S.) earned the last point in the event with her eighth place finish with a mark of 19:54.18.

Rachel Nelson (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit H.S.) also finished eighth in the 800m run for Valpo with a time of 2:23.61.

Southern Illinois-Evansville won the meet with 133 points, followed by Missouri Baptist with 96. Valpo tallied 50 points on the day in the field of 20 teams.

Valpo will return to action on Friday evening as the Crusaders head to Romeoville, Ill. to compete in the Chicagoland Championships. Events start at 5 p.m.
