The Valparaiso women’s track and field team placed ninth this weekend as it competed at the Miami Team Challenge in Oxford, Ohio.
The Crusaders tallied 22 points for their ninth-place finish out of the 14 competing squads. The host RedHawks took the team title with 212 points.
Valpo had three different athletes rack up fourth-place showings on the day. Amanda Body (Harlan, Ky./Harlan) took fourth place in the 200m dash with a time of 25.87 seconds, while Melanie Wilson (Saint Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) finished in the same position in the 100m hurdles, crossing the line in 14.72 seconds. Emilie Marsicek (Spalding, Mich./Carney-Nadeau) also registered a fourth-place finish in the shot put, tossing the implement 43’10”.
Rachael Button (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington Hills) recorded the fourth-fastest time in Crusader history in the 5,000m run, completing the race in 17:49.75, good for a sixth-place showing. Ini Umana (Cottage Grove, Wis./Park) placed ninth in the discus throw with a toss of 133’2”, while Sara Christensen (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) registered a ninth-place finish of her own in the steeplechase, coming home in 12:20.74.
Valparaiso returns to the track next Saturday, April 19 at the Puma Invitational in Rensselaer, Ind. The meet is slated to begin at 10 a.m. CDT.
