Valpo women place fifth at Redhawk Invitational
Sarah Drozdowski placed second in the hammer throw at the Redhawk Invitational.

In their final tune-up before the Horizon League Championship, the Valparaiso women’s track team placed fifth at Saturday’s Redhawk Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.

The Crusaders totaled 46.5 points. Host Miami (Ohio) won the team title.

Junior Sarah Drozdowski (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 170’ 11”. She also placed eighth in the shot put with a distance of 40’ 11”.

Freshman Cleo Holt (Marietta, Ga./George Walton Comprehensive) placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.53 seconds. She was also a member of the 400-relay team, along with sophomore Malea Buck (Davenport, Iowa/Central), and freshmen Heather Mende and Ann Chapman (Washington, Ill./Washington Community), which took third with a time of 50.54 seconds.

Junior Marissa Crafton (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) was third in the triple jump (35’ 10”) and sixth in the long jump (17’ 3”).

Sophomore Eileen Carmignani (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 14:04.04.

Freshman Megan Howdeshell (Bourbon, Ind./Triton Junior-Senior) placed fifth in the discus-throw with a season-best mark of 145’ 1”.

Sophomore Kelley Freeman (Valparaiso, Ind./Chesterton) finished seventh in the pole vault clearing 11’ 2 ¼”.

Sophomore Brooke Hinstorff (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) was eighth in the javelin throw with a mark of 106’ 5”.

Sophomore Jazmin Taylor (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) placed eighth in the high jump clearing 5’ 2 ¼”.

The Crusaders open action at the Horizon League Championship on Friday, May 3 at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Mich.
