Drozdowski sets Hammer Record, Reynard Runs into Record Books again at Illini Twilight

The Valparaiso women's track and field team saw the record books being rewritten multiple times on Saturday at the Illini Twilight, their penultimate meet of the outdoor regular season.

Sarah Drozdowski (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) had a spectacular day in the throwing events, setting personal or season best marks in four events. She started off the day by breaking the school record in the hammer throw by almost 11 feet on her first attempt with a mammoth toss of 57.22m/187-9. In the shot put, she improved her second best mark in school history by over ten inches with heave of 13.53m/44-4.75. She took sixth in the javelin with a season best throw of 31.85m/104-6 and unleashed a season best 39.94m/129-1 in the discus to finish in 11th.

Hannah Reynard (Jackson, Mich./Napoleon) improved her fifth fastest time in school history in the 100 meter hurdles by .61 as she crossed the finish line in 15.39 to finish eighth. She would also set the fifth fastest time at Valpo in the 400m, taking 11th in 59.44. In the 200m, she ran a personal best 26.71.

In the high jump, Jazmin Taylor (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island) finished in fifth with her mark of 1.64m/5-4.5.

Brooke Hinstorff (Waterloo, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) and Heather Mende (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles Prep.) finished third and ninth in the javelin with throws of 35.73m/117-3 and 29.53m/96-10, respectively.

Sarah Peters (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) and Liz Bloy (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) both finished tenth in their respective events. Peters cleared 3.36m/11-0.25 in the pole vault while Bloy finished the 1,500m run in 4:36.41.

Kelli Wosick (Mount Prospect, Ill./Saint Viator) improved her season best time in the 400m by .11 as she finished in 59.63 and took 13th.

The long-distance trio of Hannah Schilling (Fraser, Mich./Lutheran North), Sophia Robinson (Downers Grove, Ill./South) and Kim Heiny (Burnettsville, Ind./Twin Lakes)all set season bests in the 5,000m run. Schilling shaved nearly 20 seconds off her time as she crossed the line first in 19:15.80. Robinson finished in 20:13.41 while Heiny was right behind her in 20:15.42.

Valpo finished the meet with 31 points and finished in eighth place.

The Crusaders are set to host their first ever home meet next Saturday at Warren G. Hoger Track at Brown Field, with throwing events taking place at Eastgate Field.
