Bruno Improves School Record at Alex Wilson Invitational
Alex Bruno improved his school record time on Saturday.

The Valparaiso University track and field teams had four athletes participate at the Alex Wilson Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame on Saturday. The competition comprised of numerous athletes from top programs across the country. Junior Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./University) highlighted the day when he dropped the school record in the mile by almost three seconds despite battling an illness.

How It Happened

  • Senior Kim Heiny (Burnettsville, Ind./Twin Lakes) finished 11th in the women’s 3000-meter run when she crossed the line in 10:38.06.
  • Bruno’s performance in the mile run clocked in at 4:09.78, which placed him 10th overall and ahead of athletes from Notre Dame. Bruno had previously set the school record two weeks ago at the Meyo Invitational with a time of 4:12.43.
  • Also in the mile run was senior Ben Zibricky (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) coming in at 4:16.62, replacing his previous best of 4:22.00.
  • Junior Jack Mader (Granger, Ind./Penn) competed in the men’s 3000-meter run, and his time was recorded at 9:16.70.

The Crusaders will conclude the indoor portion of their season next weekend as they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa to compete at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 24 – 25 on the campus of Northern Iowa.
