Crusaders Close Out MVC Indoor Championships
Alexander Bruno placed seventh in the mile at the MVC Indoor Championships.

The Valparaiso University track and field teams capped off the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships on Sunday at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Junior Alexander Bruno (Bloomington, Ill./University) highlighted the day with a seventh-place finish in the mile run.

How It Happened

  • Bruno scored points for Valpo after he recorded a time of 4:25.36 in the mile run for a seventh-place finish.
  • In the men’s 4x400 meter relay, the quartet of sophomore Ben Sekuloski (Lowell, Ind./Lowell), sophomore Bryce Otterbach (Mendota, Ill./Mendota Township), senior Brandon Riley (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park) and junior Connor Hickey (Peru, Ill./LaSalle-Peru) combined for a seventh-place finish. With a time of 3:23.19, they move up to fourth in the Valpo record book for this event.
  • Shannon Lahey (Dixon, Ill./Dixon) improved upon her season-best effort in the women’s triple jump. She went from 33 feet, 5¼ inches to 34-3½.
  • Two Crusaders bested their farthest throws this season in the men’s shot put. Senior Andrew Guzek (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) tossed a 49-7¾, which is better than his previous mark of 48-7¼. Sophomore Jake Rasawehr (Celina, Ohio/Celina) also improved his heave from 47-0¾ to 48-9½.

The Crusaders will commence the outdoor portion of the season on March 10 when they travel to Lake Charles, La. for the McNeese Cowboy Relays.
