Hecker Named to MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team

Valpo softball graduate Regi Hecker (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Blue Springs South) added another accolade to her list of honors following her tremendous senior season, as she was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team on Tuesday.

Valpo softball freshman pitcher Sydney McDermott (Stout, Ohio/Portsmouth West) represented the Beacons on the Missouri Valley Conference All-Tournament Team as the MVC Tournament concluded on Saturday.


Softball Season Comes to End at MVC Tournament

The 2024 campaign came to an end for the Valpo softball team on Wednesday afternoon in Normal, Ill., as the 12th-seeded Beacons fell in the opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament to fifth-seeded Bradley, 2-0.


Hecker, Johnson Earn Conference Postseason Honors

A pair of Valpo softball players were recognized on Wednesday morning as the Missouri Valley Conference unveiled its postseason awards. Senior Regi Hecker (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Blue Springs South) was tabbed a Second Team All-MVC honoree, while fellow senior Alexis Johnson (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) represented Valpo on the conference’s All-Defensive Team.


Softball Tournament Opener Moved to 11:30 a.m.

Due to anticipated inclement weather later in the day, the Missouri Valley Conference has moved up start times on the opening day of the 2024 MVC Tournament. Valpo's tournament opener against Bradley will now begin at 11:30 a.m.


Softball Readies for 2024 MVC Tournament

The Valpo softball team heads to the 2024 MVC Tournament this week in Normal, Ill. As the 12th seed, Valpo opens tournament play against fifth-seeded Bradley on Wednesday afternoon. The Beacons will have to win four games in a row in the single-elimination bracket to claim the tournament title.


Beacons Drop Extra-Inning Affair to UNI to Close Regular Season

For the second straight day, a standout pitching performance from freshman Sydney McDermott (Stout, Ohio/Portsmouth West) helped the Valpo softball team stay pace-for-pace with second-place UNI, but unlike Saturday’s walk-off heroics, Sunday saw the Beacons come out on the wrong end of a 4-2 final score in nine innings.


Senior Day Stunner as Softball Rallies for Walk-Off Win Over UNI

It was as if the script had already been written prior to the first pitch on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at the Valpo Softball Complex. After all, how else would you explain a trio of the Beacons’ seniors — celebrating their Senior Day — being key components of a seventh-inning rally which resulted in Valpo erasing the entirety of a four-run deficit? The comeback was completed in walk-off fashion as senior Regi Hecker (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Blue Springs South) delivered an RBI single, sending classmate Alexis Johnson (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) across the plate with the decisive run as the Beacons took down second-place UNI by a 5-4 final.


Softball Drops Series Opener to UNI

The Valpo softball team opened the final weekend of regular season play at the Valpo Softball Complex on Friday afternoon, falling to UNI by a 5-0 final despite limiting one of the MVC’s top offenses to just five hits.
