Valpo Baseball Reveals 2023 Schedule

The Valparaiso University baseball program has revealed its schedule for the 2023 season, which will feature 51 regular-season games leading into the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament, hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind. from May 23-28.

The nonconference schedule will see Valpo take on opponents from nine different conferences including four of the power five – the Big 12, ACC, Big Ten and SEC as well as the Ohio Valley Conference, Sun Belt, Summit League, Horizon League and Mid-American Conference.

The season begins with six games against first-time opponents as Valpo takes on Kansas (Feb. 17-19) and UT Martin (Feb. 24-26). The Beacons will return to Arkansas Little Rock (March 3-5) after most recently taking two out of three there in 2009. The team’s spring trip features a midweek stop at Mississippi State on March 7, continuing an all-time series that saw the Bulldogs sweep a doubleheader on March 11, 2009 in the only prior matchups.

A trip to Southern Miss (March 10-12) will see Valpo match up with a team that won Conference USA last season as part of a 47-19 record, hosting and winning an NCAA Regional before making an NCAA Super Regional appearance. The Golden Eagles are in their first season as a member of the Sun Belt Conference.

Valpo will visit Omaha (March 17-19) for the second straight season after winning two of three last year. Notre Dame (March 21, April 18) will make its annual appearances on the schedule after the Fighting Irish knocked off No. 1 Tennessee in last year’s Super Regional to reach the College World Series as part of a 41-7 season.

The Beacons will open the home portion of the season with their 75th all-time meeting with Milwaukee (March 28). Other midweek dates include at Milwaukee (April 4), at Purdue Fort Wayne (April 11), at Purdue (April 25), at Western Michigan (May 2) and vs. Western Michigan (May 9).

The Missouri Valley Conference docket opens at Indiana State (March 24-26). Valpo will host MVC newcomers Murray State (March 31-April 2) and UIC (April 21-23) before visiting the league’s third new member, Belmont (May 12-14). Other MVC road opponents are Evansville (April 7-9), Bradley (April 14-16) and Missouri State (April 28-30), while additional conference home opponents include Southern Illinois (May 5-7) and Illinois State (May 18-20).
