Five members of the Valparaiso University baseball program were recognized as College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly known as CoSIDA) announced its Academic All-District honors on Tuesday.
Senior pitcher Nathan Chasey (Ames, Iowa / Gilbert [Indian Hills CC]), redshirt sophomore second baseman Nolan Tucker (Cedar Lake, Ind. / Hanover Central), junior shortstop Alex Thurston (Fowler, Ind. / Benton Central), sophomore outfielder Spencer Warfield (Fullerton, Calif. / Service) and redshirt sophomore outfielder Matt Olive (Minneapolis, Minn. / Blake School) were all recognized.
After completing his undergraduate degree in business with a 3.67 cumulative grade point average, Chasey owns a 3.78 graduate GPA while pursuing an MBA. Tucker holds a 3.84 GPA in management, while his double-play mate Thurston stands at 3.65 in sports management. In addition, Olive owns a 3.72 GPA in sports management and Warfield possesses a 3.54 in management.
All five meet CSC academic all-district standards by virtue of having a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better. To qualify for the honor, individuals also must be starters or important reserves, have reached at least sophomore academic status and must have been at their institution for at least one calendar year. The five Beacons will advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
