Quick Strikes Lead San Diego over Valpo
Saturday, October 29, 2005
Josh Johnson was 20-of-26 for 345 yards and seven touchdowns in the first half as visiting San Diego posted a 63-21 victory over Valparaiso on Saturday afternoon at Brown Field.

The Toreros scored on their first eight possessions of the game, five of which lasted less than a minute, on the way to clinching the Pioneer Football League North Division title.

Adam Hannula caught ten passes for 172 yards and four touchdowns to lead the way for San Diego (8-1, 4-0 PFL North). He caught scoring strikes of 8, 26, 7, and 12 yards. J.T. Rogan also had two touchdown catches and rushed for a score while Mark Johnson returned an interception 100 yards in the third quarter for the Toreros final touchdown.

Valpo got on the scoreboard late in the first half as Steve Ogden (Wauwatosa, Wis./West H.S.) hauled in a 12-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Doerffler (Fort Wayne, Ind./Dwenger H.S.) with 2:13 left to play in the half.

Doerffler threw another 15-yard score to Joe Blahowicz (Buffalo, N.Y./Alden H.S.) late in the third quarter and the duo hooked up again with 11:43 left in the game from 30 yards out for Valpo's final touchdown.

Jeff Horton (Saint Louis, Mo./Lutheran North H.S.) led Valpo's ground attack with 143 yards on 32 carries. Ogden finished the day with 69 yards receiving on five catches while Blahowicz made three grabs for 57 yards.

The Crusaders finished the game with 321 yards of total offense while San Diego tallied 491, 432 of which came in the first half.

Valparaiso (2-7, 1-2) will close out the home portion of the schedule next Saturday as the Crusaders host Drake on Senior Day. Kickoff at Brown Field is slated for noon.
