Wood Earns Punting Honors for Second Time This Season

For the second time this season, Valparaiso University punter Greg Wood (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville H.S.) was honored by the College Football Performance Awards as an Honorable Mention Punter of the Week in NCAA I-FCS following the Jacksonville game.

The sophomore averaged 45.4 yards per punt over nine kicks, landing a pair inside the Dolphins’ 20-yard line.  He had a long of 54 on Saturday.

For the season, Wood leads the Pioneer Football League, and ranks eighth nationally in NCAA I-FCS, averaging 42.8 yards per punt.  He has landed 10 of 43 kicks inside of the opponents 20-yard line, and has eight boots of 50 yards or more, including a career-long 57-yarder.

Valparaiso returns to action on Saturday afternoon as the Crusaders travel to San Diego, Calif. to battle the Toreros of the University of San Diego.  Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. CST.
