Javon Freeman-Liberty Named to Lou Henson Award Watch List
Javon Freeman-Liberty was named to the Lou Henson Award Watch List on Thursday.

Valparaiso University sophomore Javon Freeman-Liberty (Chicago, Ill. / Whitney Young) was named to the 2019-20 Lou Henson Award midseason watch list, which was announced on Thursday.

The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the nation’s top Division-I mid-major player.

Freeman-Liberty ranks in the Top 20 nationally in both points per game and steals per game. He is the Missouri Valley Conference leader in both areas at 20.9 points per game and 2.4 steals per contest. The sophomore star is just one steal away from reaching the 100-steal milestone for his career and is on pace to shatter the single-season Valpo steals record.

Freeman-Liberty is also on pace to finish third on Valpo’s single-season scoring list, sixth in Missouri Valley Conference history in points by a sophomore in a single season and eclipse the career 1,000-point precipice by the end of his sophomore season. A two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, Freeman-Liberty joins Loyola’s Cameron Krutwig as the only MVC players in the Top 10 in points, rebounds, steals and assists.

The 2019-20 Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award will be announced in April 2020 in Atlanta, the site of the national championship.
