Valpo Basketball Welcomes Quinton Green

The Valparaiso University men’s basketball program and head coach Matt Lottich have announced the addition of 6-foot-7 guard Quinton Green (Columbus, Ohio / Homeschool [Cedarville]), who will join the program as a graduate transfer from NCAA Division-II Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio.

Green averaged 12.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in 28 contests (24 starts) with the Yellow Jackets during the 2021-2022 season while knocking down a team-high 59 3-point field goals. He scored 1,288 points over four seasons at Cedarville, earning All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) second team honors in each of his final three seasons.

“Coach Lottich and Coach (Luke) Gore reached out to me as soon as I entered the transfer portal,” Green said. “They kept talking to me throughout the process and I was extremely comfortable talking to them every day. The coaches didn’t talk only about basketball, but instead took the time to get to know me as a person. They want high-character players in their program and they think I fit that criteria. I took a visit last week, and I loved everything about Valpo. They believe in me and I believe in the program.”

Green is familiar with the Northwest Indiana community thanks in part to his five-year teammate and roommate at Cedarville, Conner TenHove, who is a Valparaiso native. Green competed at the Athletics-Recreation Center as a visiting player on Oct. 19, 2019, when he poured in a game-high 23 points to go along with seven rebounds as Valpo hosted Cedarville in an exhibition game.

“Quinton is someone who we have been impressed with since we played him and he scored 23 points against a team that was 10 minutes away from going to the NCAA Tournament,” Lottich said. “He has great size and is a fantastic shooter who is extremely athletic. We think he’ll be a vital piece to the puzzle that we’re trying to complete here. He has a team-first mentality and played for a team that won a ton of games at the Division-II level. We can’t wait to see what Quinton can accomplish at Valpo.”

Green, who has completed his undergraduate degree in sport business management and will pursue a master’s in sport administration at Valpo, helped Cedarville to the program’s first Division-II NCAA Tournament appearance this year as the team reached the Division-II Midwest Regional Quarterfinal.

“This past season was very special,” Green said. “It was a great experience to play with five seniors who I had been with for four years. We enjoyed being a part of those special moments together, and it’s moments like those that I’m looking forward to experiencing at Valpo.”

During the 2020-21 season, Green earned All-NCCAA Midwest Region Second Team accolades after averaging 13.0 points per game. He also earned All-NCCAA Midwest Region Second Team status as a sophomore in 2019-20, when he posted 13.1 points per game. After sitting out the 2017-18 season as a redshirt, Green contributed right away during the 2018-19 campaign by averaging 9.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per outing.

During his high school days, Green was a three-year member of the Miami Valley Saints Homeschool Basketball team in Dayton. He spent the previous two seasons with the Albuquerque Homeschool Athletic Association in New Mexico. Green, who enjoys golfing in his spare time, averaged a double-double of 22 points and 10 boards during his final season with the Miami Valley Saints. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2016 Indiana vs. Ohio All-Star Game.

“I’m very athletic with an ability to shoot,” Green said. “I try to bring a lot of high-flying dunks to the game. I always play hard, and I’m a winner. As soon as I put the Valpo jersey on, I’m committed to winning for Valpo. Achieving the goal of reaching the Division-I level means everything. I’ve put a lot of hard work into getting here and I’ve honed my craft. Valpo has given me this opportunity, and I’m ready to give Valpo everything I’ve got.”
