Valparaiso cross country juniors Chris Honig (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South [Indiana]) and Laura Rolf (Rochester, Mich./Lutheran Northwest) have been named to the men’s and women’s cross country Academic All-Horizon League Teams, respectively, for their academic and athletic performance this season.

Honig earned Second Team All-League honors after placing eighth at the Horizon League Championship.  He paced the Crusaders on the course in five of his six races on the season, and earned men’s cross country Athlete of the Week honors Oct. 16 for his eighth-place finish at the Evansville Invitational.  In the classroom, Honig holds a 3.64 GPA as a history major and received Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week accolades on Sept. 11.

Rolf was named the Horizon League women’s cross country Athlete of the Year after winning five races in 2007, including the Horizon League Championship.  A three-time league Athlete of the Week, Rolf earned All-Region honors for the third consecutive year and placed in the top-50 at the NCAA National meet for the second straight season.  In the classroom, Rolf holds a 3.40 GPA as a new media-journalism major and received All-Academic individual accolades from the USTFCCCA last season, one of just 76 Division I women to receive the honor.
