No. 3: Bruno, Sekuloski Break Cross Country, Track & Field Records

The Valparaiso University men’s track and field team saw a pair of athletes shatter records that had stood for 40+ years on Feb. 3 at the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.

Ben Sekuloski broke a 43-year-old record in the 400-meter dash and Alexander Bruno took down a 40-year-old record in the mile. Sekuloski crossed the finish line in 48.57 in his event, breaking the record of 48.80 that had stood since 1975. Bruno finished the mile in 4:12.43, breaking a record that had been in place in 1978.

Bruno continued his noteworthy 2018 by cementing himself as the top cross country runner in program history this fall. He shattered school records that had stood since 2001 in both the 8K (24:23) and the 10K (31:54.4).

Our countdown of the top feats of the year in Valpo Athletics continues on Monday with the No. 2 moment of the year.
