VanArragon Repeats as MVC Golfer of the Week

For the second consecutive week, Valparaiso University men’s golf sophomore Caleb VanArragon (Blaine, Minn. / Blaine) was named a Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week on Thursday.

VanArragon turned in his second straight individual runner-up finish, this time placing second in a 70-player field at the Butler Spring Invitational on Monday and Tuesday in Indianapolis. He finished at par for the tournament, carding a 210 (72-68-70) on the par-70, 6551-yard Highland Golf & Country Club course. He finished a single stroke behind individual medalist Antoine Sale of Indian Hills CC.

VanArragon was four strokes over par through his first nine holes of Round 1, then went on to play his next 45 holes at four under. Prior to last week, only two individuals in modern program history owned a 54-hole tournament score of 210 or better (Nick Seitz once and Peter Webb three times). Now, VanArragon has done so in consecutive tournaments. His 210 this week ranks sixth in the program record book, while his 209 from a week ago is tied for fourth in individual 54-hole tournament overall score.

The sophomore now owns three career runner-up finishes, two of which have come in his last two tournaments. His 68 in Round 2 matched his career low, marking the second straight tournament he posted a round of 68. VanArragon’s standout effort helped Valpo garner its second straight top-3 finish on the team leaderboard, this time posting a team score of 870 that ranks seventh in modern program history in 54-hole tournament low.

The 2019-20 MVC Newcomer of the Year and a 2019-20 all-conference performer, VanArragon earned the fourth MVC Golfer of the Week distinction of his career and his second this season. The team will return to action on April 19-20 at the Wright State Invitational in Springboro, Ohio, the squad’s final tournament prior to the MVC Championships.
