Southern Illinois has built up a sizable lead for the team title, while Valpo holds a four-stroke edge over a three-way tie for third.

Men’s Golf Third Through One Day at MVC Championship
The Valparaiso University men’s golf team began its quest for an NCAA Tournament berth on Sunday as the Missouri Valley Conference championship got underway at the par-72, 7014-yard Country Club of Paducah in Paducah, Ky. The Beacons finished the first round of the three-round event well within striking distance of the top spot, as third-place Valpo is five shots away from tournament-leading Southern Illinois through 18 holes. Drake is two shots ahead of Valpo for second with two rounds remaining as the teams battle for MVC supremacy and the automatic NCAA Regional berth that goes along with it.

The Valparaiso University men’s golf team closed out a runner-up finish on Tuesday morning at the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate, hosted by Missouri State at the par-71, 6760-yard Twin Oaks Intercollegiate in Springfield, Mo. The Beacons were led by Yianni Kostouros (Crown Point, Ind. / Crown Point [Ball State]), who earned a runner-up finish in the tournament, which was shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather on Monday afternoon. The team shattered the modern program record for 36-hole tournament team score, while Kostouros tied for the program record for individual 36-hole tournament score.

Valpo Leads Twin Oaks Intercollegiate Entering Final Day After Second-Best Round in Modern Program History
The Valparaiso University men’s golf team enters Tuesday’s second and final day of the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate with its eyes set on closing out a team championship. The Beacons opened the event with a strong performance on Monday, and sat atop a 16-team leaderboard at 11 strokes under par when play was halted midway through the second round due to inclement weather. Due to the interruption, the event will be shortened from 54 holes to 36 holes and will be completed on Tuesday morning at the par-71, 6760-yard Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, Mo. The team’s Round-1 score on Monday represented one of the best marks in modern program history.
