VanArragon Wins MVC Golfer of the Week After Tournament Title
Caleb VanArragon won his 10th career MVC Golfer of the Week award on Friday.

For the fifth time this season and the 10th time in his collegiate career, Caleb VanArragon (Blaine, Minn. / Blaine) is the Missouri Valley Conference golfer of the week.

With this week’s award, VanArragon becomes just the sixth golfer in conference history to accumulate 10 or more weekly honors.

VanArragon took medalist honors in a 41-player field at the Dove Mountain Intercollegiate, a tournament hosted by Valpo at the par-72, 7291-yard Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana, Ariz. this week. He entered the third and final round facing a four-stroke deficit, but made up five strokes over the final 18 holes to usurp Arizona State’s Jose Luis Ballester by one stroke for the top spot.

VanArragon posted a 54-hole score of 211 (-5, 70-72-69), tying for the fourth-best 54-hole score in relation to par in modern program history. He joined his own mark along with three others in a tie for fourth on that list. By finishing a 54-hole tournament at five under par, VanArragon tied the best performance of his standout career. He prevailed in a top-four that featured three members of Arizona State, which is ranked the No. 2 team in the country. He finished either first or second in an event for the fifth time this season and ninth time in his collegiate career. VanArragon led the tournament with 14 birdies, while none of the other competitors in the event had more than 10.

The Beacons will be back in action on March 14-15 at the GCU Invitational, hosted by Grand Canyon at GCU Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz.
