Crusaders Fall to Carthage

The Valparaiso men's swim team lost a narrow 107-89 meet at Carthage on Saturday afternoon.

Bob Schmidt (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville H.S.) registered a victory in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.73, while also finishing second in the 100 free (48.59). David Kesler (Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves H.S.) finished right behind Schmidt in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.15.

Mike Hermes (Hudson, Ill./U-High) cruised to a six second victory in the 200 breaststroke, touching the wall in 2:13.40 for Valpo's other individual victory.

The 400 free relay of Schmidt, Sean Conrin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove H.S.), Kesler, and Edward Chester (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka H.S.) registered the Brown and Gold's other victory with a time of 3:18.16.

Neal Badgett (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit Prep H.S.) turned in three second place efforts, doing so in the 100 free (10:21.87), the 200 butterfly (2:06.53) and the 500 free (5:04.89).

The Crusaders will return to the pool on Friday evening when they travel to Muncie, Ind. for a tri-meet with Ball State and Butler.
