Weidner Named Mid-Con Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Valparaiso University's Tim Weidner was named the 2001-2002 Mid-Continent Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year the conference office announced today.

In the pool Weidner earned First Team All-Conference honors twice, winning the 50 meter freestyle in both 1999-2000 and 2001-2002. He holds three individual school records in the 50 and 100 freestyle along with the 100 breaststroke. The Mount Prospect, Ill. native also was a member of five school-record relay teams (200, 400, and 800 free along with 200 and 400 medley).

In the classroom, Weidner was named to the Mid-Con Academic All-Conference Team three times, while being selected to the CoSIDA/Verizon Academic All-District Team his final three seasons. Weidner graduated from Valpo earning Presidential Academic Honors all four years and as a member of the Dean's List every semester.

Weidner joines Marc Reidl (1992-93 and 1993-94), Bryce Drew (1997-98), and Collette Liss (1998-99) as Mid-Con Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipients.
