Crusaders Defeat Lewis 110-82

The Valparaiso University men's swim team defeated Lewis 110-82 on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics-Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Crusaders began the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay as Bob Schmidt (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville H.S.), Jeff Ewers (Huntertown, Ind./Carroll H.S.), Bob Pedersen (Urbana, Ill./Urbana H.S.), and Edward Chester (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka H.S.) touched the wall in 1:43.56, over ten seconds in front of the Flyers.

Schmidt then won the 200 free with a time of 1:50.55 and captured the 50 free later in the meet in 22.84 seconds.

Sean Conrin (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove H.S.) brought home top honors in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.05 seconds and was also the fastest in the meet in the 200 back (2:09.25).

Ewers won the 100 breaststroke individually with a mark of 1:01.52, while Mike Hermes (Hudson, Ill./U-High) was the meet's fastest swimmer in the 200 breast, touching the wall in 2:16.11.

Neal Badgett (Houston, Texas/Strake Jesuit Prep H.S.) turned in the quickest 500 free time (5:23.85), while the 200 free relay of Conrin, Schmidt, David Kesler (Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves H.S.), and Chester concluded the meet with the fastest time of 1:30.26.

Valpo will return to the pool next Saturday afternoon when the Brown and Gold travels to Charleston, Ill. The Crusaders will face Eastern Illinois at 1 p.m.
