Valparaiso University freshman Travers Smith (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.) has been named the Mid-Continent Conference Athlete of the Week in men's swimming and diving following his performance at the Eastern Illinois Invitational over the weekend.

Smith on the 100 backstroke in a time of 54.64 seconds, helping lead the Crusaders to a second place finish in the meet. He also placed second in the 200 back (2:00.04), while finishing third in the 500 freestyle, touching the wall in 4:55.90. Smith also was a member of the 400 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay, both of which finished second.
