Crusaders Fall to Wisconsin-Milwaukee, South Dakota State

Despite two top-two finishes apiece from Travers Smith (Huntley, Ill./Huntley H.S.) and David Peterson (Schererville, Ind./Highland H.S.), Valparaiso lost to Wisconsin-Milwaukee 141-78 and to South Dakota State 112-91 Sunday in Milwaukee, Wis.

Smith took top honors in the 100 yard butterfly, touching the wall with a time of 52.89 seconds, following a second-place effort in the 200 yard freestyle. Peterson captured the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:00.93 and posted a second-place finish in the 200 yard individual medley.

The Crusaders' team of Smith, Dan Cisek (Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale South H.S.), Matt Schuchhardt (Neenah, Wis./Neenah H.S.), and Dave Kesler (Beverly Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves H.S.) won the 200 yard freestyle relay, coming home with a time of 1:30.77. Peterson helped guide the 200 yard medley relay team to a second place finish.

Freshman Travis Thames (Tucson, Ariz./Canyon Del Oro H.S.) picked up Valpo's only other top-three finish, touching the wall third in the 100 yard backstroke.

Valparaiso (1-7) returns to the pool this coming Friday, November 18th. The Crusaders will travel to Muncie, Ind. to take part in the Ball State Invitational.
