Valpo Drops Dual Finale at UIC

            Valparaiso wrapped up the dual meet portion of the 2007-2008 swimming and diving schedule on Saturday afternoon, dropping a 172-58 decision to UIC in Chicago, Ill.

            Adam Jajtner (Port Washington, Wis./Port Washington H.S.) turned in a pair of season’s best times on Saturday for the Crusaders.  The junior finished second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:11.90.  Jajtner also turned in the second fastest time of the day in the 500 free with a season’s top time of 4:53.06.

            David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) was runner-up in the 50 freestyle with a mark of 21.90 seconds, while Kyle Verage (Hubertus,Wis./Marquette H.S.) finished second in the 100 backstroke with his time of 56.46 seconds.

            Kurtis Malone (Pekin, Ill./Pekin  H.S.) placed second on the one-meter diving board with a career-best score of 248.50.

            “Our guys did well today,” interim head coach Barbara Tyree said afterwards.  “Adam had a couple of his best times of the year.”

            Valparaiso will now take three weeks off before competing at the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships in Cleveland, Ohio on February 20-23.  The first event will begin each day at 9 a.m. CST.
