Despite a pair of event victories for Valparaiso, the Crusaders came up on the short end of a 129-79 decision against UIC on Saturday afternoon at the Athletics-Recreation Center pool.
David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) earned Valpo’s first victory of the afternoon in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.65 seconds, posting the fifth fastest mark in school history. Sivak also placed third in the 200 individual medley, touching the wall in 2:00.85.
Kyle Verage (Hubertus, Wis./Marquette H.S.) added a victory for the Crusaders in the 100 backstroke. The senior posted a time of 55.44 seconds. Austin Hunter (La Crescent, Minn./La Crescent H.S.) made it a one-two finish for the Brown and Gold in the event with his runner-up finish in a time of 57.02 seconds.
Verage also had the second fastest time of the day in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:04.18.
Victor Sikorski (Valparaiso, Ind./Wheeler H.S.) finished second for the Brown and Gold in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.57 seconds, just .13 seconds off the pace.
Kurtis Malone (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.) added a runner-up finish on the one-meter diving board, posting a score of 217.65 on the day.
Valparaiso (0-7) will return to the water next Friday evening as the Crusaders head to Macomb, Ill. to face Western Illinois. The first race begins at 5 p.m.
