Valparaiso University senior David Sivak (Hobart, Ind./Hobart H.S.) has been named the Horizon League’s Swimmer of the Week following two school records and five event victories last week for the Crusaders.

In the process, Sivak is the first Crusader to earn a swimming honor from the Horizon League since Valparaiso joined the conference prior to the 2007-2008 season.

A senior, Sivak set school records in the 100 backstroke (51.98) and 400 individual medley (4:09.21) on Sunday at the Butler Invitational, his third meet in as many days.  He now owns school records in six individual events and is also a part of all five school record relays at Valpo.

Sivak, who ranks among the top-10 all-time at Valpo in 12 different individual events, also won the 50 freestyle twice on the weekend while also posting event wins in the 100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke, and the 100 back.

Sivak will return to the Athletics-Recreation Center pool for the final time in his career on Saturday afternoon for the annual Senior Meet as the Crusaders host IUPUI.  The first event begins at 4 p.m.
