Valparaiso’s men’s swim team dropped both ends of a double dual meet on Saturday afternoon in Cleveland, Ohio. The Crusaders fell 203-24 to Saint Bonaventure and 200-37 against Cleveland State.
Tate Wegehaupt (Tigard, Ore./Tigard H.S.) posted Valpo’s top finish on the afternoon, finishing third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:11.84. Wegehaupt also had the Crusaders’ best finish in the 200 individual medley, placing seventh in 2:06.74.
Austin Hunter (La Crescent, Minn./La Crescent H.S.) added a sixth place effort for the Brown and Gold in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.41 seconds.
Kevin Fedde (Fort Collins, Colo./Heritage Christian H.S.) led the way for the Crusaders in the 1000 free, finishing seventh overall with his time of 10:43.59. Freshman Kyle Braun (McHenry, Ill./West H.S.) added a seventh place effort in the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:52.59.
Thomas Patrick (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) added a seventh place mark for the Brown and Gold in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:17.99 while Fernando Aguilar (San Salvador, El Salvador/Colegio Internacional de San Salvador H.S.) finished in the same spot in the 100 freestyle with a mark of 51.62 seconds.
Matt King (Clinton, Ill./Clinton H.S.) placed seventh in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:08.02 to lead Valpo in that event while Trevor Trimpe (New Palestine, Ind./Connersville H.S.) posted the same finish in the 500 free, finishing in 5:08.55.
Valparaiso (0-6) will return to the water next Friday and Saturday at the Coers Invitational held hosted by Ball State. Friday’s events begin at 5 p.m. CST in Muncie, Ind.
