The Valparaiso men's swimming team continued the 2012-2013 season on Saturday afternoon in a dual meet at Lewis, falling by a score of 170-88.

Freshman Gonzalo Castro Diaz(Mexico City, Mexico) shaved more than two seconds off his 100 fly time from the previous day, touching the wall in 52.49 seconds to move into fifth place in Valpo history in the event.  Castro Diaz swam the 200 fly as well on Saturday, and cracked the Crusaders’ top-ten all-time in that as well, as his winning time of 2:00.03 ranks seventh in the Valpo annals.

Freshman Frederick Jenny (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) swam to a trio of second-place showings on Saturday in the 200 free (1:50.46), 200 breaststroke (2:17.21) and 200 individual medley (2:04.44).  Sophomore Kyle Braun(McHenry, Ill./West) placed second in the 50 free with a time of 22.16 seconds and also swam the 100 free in 49.81 seconds, good for third place.  Sophomore Matt King (Clinton, Ill./Clinton) and freshman Tim Mitchell (Lakeville, Minn./North) also picked up third-place finishes on Saturday in the 100 backstroke (56.19) and the 1000 free (11:12.51), respectively.

Valparaiso returns to the pool at the two-day Woehnker Invitational next weekend.  The meet runs Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16 and 17, in Crawfordsville, Ind.
