The Lewis University Flyers defeated Valpo in the pool Saturday at the ARC. The Crusader men were on the wrong side of a 155-107 outcome, while the women lost 176-81.
Matt King (Clinton, Ill./Clinton) clocked a 100-yard backstroke time of 55.60, good for first place.
Sophomore Gonzalo Castro Diaz (Mexico City. Mexico) claimed another first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly. His 1:59.55 time was more than two-and-a-half seconds ahead of Lewis' Bryant Jacobs.
Senior Tate Wegehaupt (Tigard, Ore./Tigard) took home a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.11.
Valpo's 200-yard freestyle race was a successful one, netting the Brown and Gold eleven points via a first-place result. Castro Diaz, Wegehaupt, Frederick Jenny (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany). and King completed the race in 1:27.69, a full second ahead of the Flyers' team.
In women's action, junior Marley Cripe (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville [Liberty]) dazzled again. The newcomer won the 100-yard freestyle, her third victory the last two days. Her 53.17 result earned the Crusaders nine points.
Ciara Lightner (Dixon, Ill./Dixon), Flavia Segatto (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charleow Flanigan), Ali Taubert (Bloomington, Ill./University), and Lauren Knop (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) each garnered second-place finishes in their respective events.
The Crusaders travel to Macomb, Illinois next Saturday when they take on Western Illinois at 1:00 pm.
