Valpo Men Slide to 5th, Women 6th at Calvin College Invitational

The Valpo swimming teams endured day two of the Calvin College Invitational Friday in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Crusaders finished the second leg of the event in 5th place on the men's circuit, while the women's squad stand in 6th place. 

Kyle Braun (McHenry, Ill./West) was victorious in the Heat 1 C Final of the 200-yard freestyle. His 1:48.31 just edged out the Wabash College pair of Arturo Granados and Joel Paquin. Braun later took top honors in the Heat 1 C Finals.

Katrina Peters (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) earned a similar result in the Heat 1 C Final of the 100-yard breaststroke. Peters hit the wall at 1:11.43, a third of a second ahead of Kalamazoo College's Ellen Neveux.

Teammates Frederick Jenny (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) and Tate Wegehaupt (Tigard, Ore./Tigard) produced a photo finish in the Heat 2 B Final of the 100-yard breaststroke. Jenny clocked in at 58.44; Wegehaupt finished at 58.45. 

Ali Taubert (Bloomington, Ill./University) was one of only two swimmers to eclipse the 5:00 mark in the 400-yard IM. Taubert beat Kalamazoo College's Katherine Cebelak by a time of 4:54.67 to 4:55.10. 

The Calvin College Invitational concludes Saturday in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
