Gomez Barrientos Breaks Records at Lewis Dual

The Valparaiso men’s and women’s swimming teams dropped their dual meet on Friday afternoon against Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill, but freshman Dani Gomez Barrientos broke the school record in the 400 yard IM.

The men lost 139-66, while the women fell 132-72.

Barrientos (Mexico City, Mexico/Grandview Prep) gained a pair of first place finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:37.65) and the 400 yard IM (4:38.02). She broke senior teammate Flavia Segatto’s (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charles W. Flanagan) time of 4:38.61 set in 2013. She would also set the third-best time in the 1000 and swim the opening leg of 200 yard freestyle relay that finished second in 1:44.47.

Segatto took home first in the 100 yard butterfly with 1:02.20 and finished second in the 500 yard freestyle (5:18.74). She also swam the opening leg of 200 yard medley relay (1:56.20) that finished third.

Makenna Cannon (Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine) picked-up a pair of second place finishes in the 200 yard freestyle (2:00.91) and the 100 yard backstroke (1:10.26). She also swam the second leg on the 200 yard medley relay.

Erin McBride (St. Louis, Mo./Webster Groves) took home second place in the 100 yard freestyle (56.31) while anchoring the 200 yard medley relay and swimming the second leg of the 200 yard free style relay that placed second in 1:44.47.

Gonzalo Castro Diaz (Mexico City, Mexico) placed first in the 400 yard IM with 4:11.38. He swam the opening leg of the 200 yard freestyle relay that placed second in 1:38.24.

Ethan Leach (Yorktown, Ind./Burris Laboratory) took home second in the 1000 yard freestyle with 10:43.22. Arman Salim (Angola, Ind./Fremont) placed second in the 200 yard freestyle (1:50.53) and fourth in the 100 yard butterfly (55.80).

Fred Jenny (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) placed first in the 100 yard breaststroke (58.14) and second in the 100 yard freestyle (48.91). Matt King (Clinton, Ill./Clinton) finished second in the 100 yard backstroke (55.35). Both also swam on the 200 yard medley relay team that placed second in (1:38.24).

The teams return to the pool Saturday afternoon when they welcome Western Illinois to the ARC for a dual meet. Start time is set for 1:00 pm CT.
