Another Relay Record Falls as Men’s Swimming Continues MAC Championships
Dominic May led off Valpo's record-setting relay Thursday and also posted the team's top time in the 50 free.

Three relay swims over the first two days of the MAC Championships in Carbondale, Ill. have resulted in three program-record times for the Valpo men’s swimming team, as the Beacons set a new standard in the 200 free relay on Thursday evening.

How It Happened

  • The quartet of Dominic May (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central), Ian Jaegers (Los Alamos, N.M./Los Alamos), Billy Bennett (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) and Derek Eidson (Ventura, Calif./Ventura) combined to come home in 1:23.39 in the 200 free relay on Thursday evening. The time edged out by .12 of a second the previous program record in the event, set just last season.
  • In individual action in Thursday’s prelims, Valpo’s performance in the 200 IM stood out. Andrew Berzai (South Bend, Ind./Mishawaka Marian) moved into third in program history in the event with a time of 1:55.04, while Ethan Welker (Clear Spring, Md./Saint James School) bettered his PR in the event, which ranks sixth all-time at Valpo.
  • May missed out by just .01 of a second on advancing to the finals in the 50 free, touching the wall in 20.69 in his prelim swim. Tied for the first alternate slot, May took part in a swim-off and posted a swim of 20.57, just seven one-hundredths off his own school record in the event.
  • Alex Koetter (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) posted Valpo’s top prelim time in the 500 free, finishing his swim in 4:51.43.
