Valparaiso University head coach Dan Carl begins his ninth season as head coach of the Valparaiso University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams.

During his stint at Valpo, Carl has helped improve the level of quality of the Brown and Gold's program while also helping the teams become stronger competitors in the Mid-Continent Conference. Carl has coached the Crusaders to 13 new men’s school records and 13 new women’s school records during his eight-year stint at Valpo.

Carl received his Doctoral degree in exercise physiology from the University of Toledo in August of 1998.  He received his undergraduate degree in physical education from Western Michigan University in 1985 and then went on to earn a Masters of Science degree in exercise science from Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio, in 1988.

Prior to his career at Valpo, Carl coached at three other universities. Most recently, he served as the assistant men’s coach at Ohio State University from 1989-1991.  He also has served as an assistant coach at Miami University and at the University of Delaware.
