Crusaders Finish Fall Season with Third Straight Victory

The Valparaiso men's tennis team concluded their fall slate with a 5-2 victory at home against Lake Superior on Sunday afternoon.

The Crusaders began the match winning two of the three doubles points from the Lakers. Ben Dunham-Freer (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands H.S.) and Jeff Vrabel (Allen Park, Mich./St. Francis Cabrini H.S.) were 8-4 winners at the top spot, while Tyler Neemann (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson H.S.) and Nathan Gordon (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth H.S.) registered an 8-2 win at third doubles.

The Brown and Gold added four more wins in singles action. Vrabel picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory at second singles, while Chris Widmeyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Archbishop Moeller H.S.) triumphed 7-6 (4), 6-3 at third singles. Mike Menghini (Iron Mountain, Mich./Iron Mountain H.S.) rallied from a set down in the fifth slot to win 0-6, 6-4, 10-8 and Evan Roller (Canton, Mich./Plymouth Salem H.S.) rounded out the match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at sixth singles.

The Crusaders will take the next few months off from competition before returning to action on January 18 at Ball State.
