Crusaders Defeat IPFW 4-3

The Valparaiso men’s tennis team picked up its second victory of the spring on Saturday afternoon defeating IPFW 4-3 in Warsaw, Ind.

The Crusaders started the match slowly, dropping the opening doubles point. Valpo’s second doubles team of Chris Widmeyer and Mike Menghini recorded the Brown and Gold’s only victory, 8-3. The Mastadons won first and third doubles to take the point.

In singles action, Valpo rallied by winning four of the six matches to take the contest. Ben Dunham-Freer won 6-1, 7-5 at the top spot, while Widmeyer was a 6-0, 6-3 victor at third singles. Tyler Neemann rolled 6-0, 6-1 at fourth singles, and Nate Gordon registered a 6-2, 7-5 victory to give the Crusaders the four points they needed to win the match.

Valpo (2-7) will open their home season on Saturday, March 29, hosting Bradley.
