Valpo Blanks Duquesne

The Valparaiso University men's tennis team opened its 2004 spring trip with a 7-0 sweep of Duquesne on Sunday afternoon in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Crusaders opened the match by taking two of the three doubles contests. Ben Dunham-Freer and Jeff Vrabel posted an 8-6 win at number one doubles, while Nic Kooyers and Joe Venegas were victorious by the same score at the number two spot. The Dukes posted an 8-5 win over Jay Adams and Evan Roller at the third spot.

Valpo then posted a sweep in singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. Dunham-Freer notched a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the top spot, while Kooyers tallied a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at second singles. Venegas won 6-4, 6-3 in the third spot in the order while Vrabel cruised 6-1, 6-1 in the fourth match. Adams tallied a 6-2, 6-4 victory at fifth singles, while Roller grinded out a 7-5, 6-4 win at the bottom of the order.

Valparaiso (2-4) will continue action in Florida on Monday with a 5 p.m. CST match at Stetson.
