Crusaders Sweep Sacred Heart for Second Win in Three Days

Valparaiso cruised to its second victory in three days on Tuesday afternoon as the Crusaders swept Sacred Heart 7-0 in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Crusaders opened by winning all three doubles matches in convincing fashion. Ben Dunham-Freer (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands H.S.) and Tim Shideler (Valparaiso, Ind./Munster H.S.) posted an 8-2 win at the top spot while Dave Bukowski (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect H.S.) and Mike Wagner (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer H.S.) notched a third doubles win by the same score. Nic Kooyers (Holland, Mich./Holland H.S.) and Shabbi Khan (Karachi, Pakistan/Oasys H.S.) were 8-1 victors at second doubles.

In singles play, Valpo dominated Sacred Heart (2-1) as well. Kooyers won 6-1, 6-1 at number one, while Dunham-Freer and Joe Venegas (Saint Charles, Ill./North H.S.) won 6-2, 6-0 at second and third singles respectively. Shideler notched a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at the fourth spot, while Bukowski tallied a 6-1, 6-1 win at fifth singles. Wagner tallied a 6-2, 6-0 win for the Crusaders at the sixth spot.

Valpo (2-7) will close its spring trip on Wednesday afternoon with a 2 p.m. CST match against Eckerd in Saint Petersburg, Fla.
