Kooyers Falls in Second Round of ITA Qualifying; Doubles Team Comeback Comes Up Just Short

Nic Kooyers (Holland, Mich./Holland H.S.) put up a valiant effort in the second round of qualifying at the ITA Regional Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich. but eventually fell in three sets to 14th seeded Robert Rotaru of Louisville.

Kooyers, who won in straight sets yesterday, won the first set in a tie-break but dropped the next two sets, falling 6-7 (2), 6-3, 6-4.

Kooyers and Mike Shideler (Valparaiso, Ind./Munster H.S.) took on the tenth-seeded doubles team of Pramod Dabir and Brandon Davis of Illinois in the main draw. Dabir and Davis jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Kooyers and Shideler fought back to close the gap to 7-6, but they could not pull even, as Dabir and Davis prevailed 8-6.
