Wednesday, March 15, 2006
Valparaiso posted wins at the top of the lineup in both singles and doubles, but Binghamton was able to win at the lower positions as the Bearcats defeated the Crusaders 5-2 in Kissimmee, Fla. on Wednesday morning.

The Brown and Gold earned a win at first doubles as the duo of Nic Kooyers (Holland, Mich./Holland H.S.) and Mike Shideler (Valparaiso, Ind./Munster H.S.) won their third straight match in as many days. The pair downed Brian O'Connor and Edwin Gerard 8-2. Binghamton (5-5) answered with a victory from Richemn Mourad and Aurelio Martinez at second doubles by a score of 8-4 over Mike Wagner (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer H.S.) and Dave Bukowski (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect H.S.). In the decisive third doubles contest, a tie-break was needed for Faisal Mohamed and Alex Dobrin to top Joe Venegas (Saint Charles, Ill./North H.S.) and Alex Lau (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson Senior H.S.) 9-8 (1) to secure the doubles point for the Bearcats.

Valpo posted victories at the top two singles spots, but that was not enough for the Brown and Gold. Kooyers won at number one singles for the fourth time in five matches with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Mourad while Venegas topped Dobrin 7-5, 6-1 at the second spot. Third through sixth singles were all Binghamton however. O'Connor defeated Wagner 6-1, 6-3 while Martinez downed Shideler in a super tie-break for the third set 6-2, 1-6, 10-8. Bukowski was upended by Gerard 6-4, 6-4 at fifth singles and Lau fell 6-1, 6-2 to Mark Piro at the bottom of the lineup.

Valparaiso (2-7) will conclude its spring trip on Thursday afternoon as the Crusaders head to Saint Augustine, Fla. for a contest against Flagler. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m. CST.
