Day Two Proves Fruitful for Crusaders at Ball State Invitational
Saturday, September 16, 2006
Valparaiso had a much more successful day two than the Crusaders did in day one at the Ball State Fall Invitational on Saturday in Muncie, Ind. as Tom Litscher (Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial H.S.) advanced to the consolation singles finals while a Brown and Gold doubles team advanced to the consolation doubles finals.

Litscher opened play defeating Bryan Quinn of Xavier (Ohio) 6-2, 6-2 in the C Flight consolation singles before downing David Lynall of IPFW 6-0, 6-2. He will play for the consolation title on Sunday morning.

In the main draw of the C Flight, Alex Lau (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson Senior H.S.) continued his run with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 victory over Brian Schubert of Xavier in the quarterfinals. His tournament came to a close in the semifinals, though, as leg cramps got the better of the sophomore and he fell to Jorge Rodriguez of Ball State 2-6, 6-4, 10-2.

Valpo's doubles tandem of Nic Kooyers (Holland, Mich./Holland H.S.) and Joe Venegas (Saint Charles, Ill./North H.S.) won their semifinal match in the A Flight doubles consolation draw defeating a duo from Xavier 9-7. They will face a team from Wichita State in the consolation finals Sunday.

Sunday's play will wrap up the tournament beginning at 7:30 a.m. CDT.
