Lau Registers Valpo's Lone Singles Win in Loss to Bradley
Sunday, February 25, 2007
Alex Lau (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson Senior H.S.) rallied from a set down to post a 3-6, 7-5, 10-2 victory at fourth singles for the Crusaders, but it was not enough for Valparaiso as the Brown and Gold dropped a 6-1 match against Bradley in Peoria, Ill. on Sunday afternoon.

The Crusaders had a chance early to win the doubles point, as David Bukowski (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect H.S.) and Mike Wagner (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer H.S.) posted an 8-5 win at the second spot even doubles at one. However Bradley (2-2) notched a victory at the deciding first spot to take the opening point.

The Braves then won five of the six singles contests in straight sets. Wagner forced a first set tie-break before falling 7-6 (5), 6-0 at fifth singles, the closest of the matches besides Lau's triumph.

Valparaiso (0-6) will take two weeks off before looking for its first victory of the season on March 12 against future Horizon League foe UW-Green Bay. First serve to begin spring break in Fort Myers, Fla. is set for 8 a.m. Central time.
