Valparaiso won its fourth match in as many days on its spring trip in Florida on Tuesday morning, defeating the University of Indianapolis 6-1.
The Crusaders opened the match sweeping the three doubles contests for the fourth straight match. Chris Baum (Charlotte, N.C./Providence H.S.) and Adam Whitmer (Shipshewana, Ind./Westview H.S.) defeated Alex Poe and Matt Smith 8-6 at the top of the lineup while Kevin DeHerrera (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield H.S.) and Eric Honert (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) defeated Preston Swain and Pete Wilson by the same score at the second spot. At third doubles, Michael Woodson (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft H.S.) and Siddarth Mehta (South Bend, Ind./Clay H.S.) defeated Michael Bradley and Trevor Cox 8-4.
In singles play, Valpo won at the top four spots in straight sets. Baum was a 6-1, 6-1 victor over Cox at the top while Honert was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Caleb Fellers. At third singles, DeHerrera topped Nick Reinhart 6-2, 6-2 while Whitmer defeated Smith 6-2, 6-1 at number four singles. Woodson topped Poe 6-2, 0-6, 10-8 at the fifth spot. Indianapolis (9-4) earned its only win at sixth singles as Swain defeated Carlton Lyons (South Bend, Ind./Clay H.S.) 6-1, 6-2.
Valparaiso (6-4) will look to cap off a perfect trip to Florida on Wednesday afternoon as the Crusaders face Colgate. First serve is set for 11:30 a.m. CDT.
