Valpo lost their final match of the 2012-13 season 5-2 to UIC at Oak Brook Park District Tennis Center in Chicago Saturday afternoon.
The doubles matches went in order as the Flames won 8-2, 8-6, and 8-7 at No. 1, 2, and 3 respectively.
In singles action, both Lucas Waak and Michael Savaglio battled back after dropping the first set to take their matches.
Waak's 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 win at No. 5 was his 12th of the season.
Savaglio was victorous at No. 3 singles over Christopher Cole 6-7, 6-4, 10-7. The victory was his 16th of the year.
Saturday signaled the end of a productive career for Chris Baum.
The senior from Charlotte, North Carolina recorded 46 singles victories in his time at Valpo.
Saturday's season-ending loss was especially difficult for head coach Jim Daugherty who carried a deep level of respect and admiration for Baum.
"Chris may be one of the best kids I've ever coached. He was a great player because he was true to himself and his teammates," Daugherty said.
Looking ahead, this season represented significant long-term momentum for the Crusaders.
A promising recruiting class waits in the wings.
Freshman Michael Baiocchi broke the single season wins record for doubles with 18.
And Eric Honert, the junior tied for the most wins in a season in singles, will attempt to put his name alone at the top.
