Four Crusaders to Compete for Championships at Purdue Fall Invitational Sunday
The Crusaders close out the Purdue Fall Invitational Sunday in West Lafayette, Indiana.

A heavy slate of matches was played Saturday at the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Indiana in Day 2 of the Purdue Fall Invitational.

Sophomore Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) will get two chances at taking home a championship on Sunday as he'll face off against DePaul's Kyle Johnson in the finals of the Flight C singles bracket at 9:00 am ET/8:00 am CT. A little more than two hours later, Emhardt and teammate Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) will attempt to claim the Flight A doubles championship at 11:15 am ET/10:15 am CT.

Emhardt advanced to the finals of the singles tourney via a swift victory over Eastern Kentucky's Juanjo de la Llera 6-1, 6-2 and a three-set triumph over Western Michigan's Pablo Mora, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Schorsch and Emhardt recorded a pair of nail-biters in their trek to the finals of the doubles bracket. They downed EKU's tandem of Alex Alvaro/Juanjo de la Llera 8-7 (4) to advance to the semifinals where the Crusader duo won by that same score over DePaul's Stan Leusink and David Vieyra. Cleveland State's Colton Buffington and Ali Shabib await Schorsch and Emhardt in the championship round.

Juniors Lucas Waak (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) and Michael Savaglio (Kenosha, Wis./Mary D. Bradford) advanced to the finals of a crowded Flight C doubles bracket. The two defeated Marquette's Gleb Sklyr/Scott Christian (8-3), IUPUI's Matt Moe/Brad Leutschwager (8-3), the mixed doubles team comprised of Toledo's Omar Espinosa and DePaul's Tim Corwin (8-4), and Cleveland State's Jorg Van Der Vloet/Nolan Marks (8-3) en route to the finals.

In other doubles action, Dave Bacalla (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) and Daniel Oakes (Elburn, Ill./Saint Charles North) will square off versus Case Western Reserve's tandem of Drougas/Kamarov in the consolation finals of the Flight B doubles. Chase Hamilton (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) and Kyle Dunn (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) will also play for a consolation championship. The two will meet Marquette's Gleb Sklyr and Scott Christian - who Waak and Savaglio defeated 8-3 on Friday - in the Flight C doubles bracket.

Brian Hickey (Western Springs, Ill./Fenwick) and Garrett Gardner (Poland, Ohio/Poland) defeated the Western Michigan duo of Marc Shideler and Pablo Mora 8-2 to claim a bracket in the Flight C doubles.
