The first week of Valparaiso's fall tennis schedules concluded with a pair of Horizon League Players of the Week. On Tuesday, the Horizon League announced that Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and Paige Heuer (Munster, Ind./Munster) earned the honors with perfect records in both singles and doubles play last weekend.

Emhardt cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 victory in the finals of the Flight C singles bracket at the Purdue Fall Invitational Sunday. Along the way, the sophomore picked up wins over Western Michigan's Matt Hamilton (1-6, 7-5, 6-3), Eastern Kentucky's Juanjo de la Liera (6-1, 6-2), and WMU's Pablo Mora (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) before dispatching DePaul's Kyle Johnson in the championship match.

In doubles play, Emhardt and Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) continued their torrid pace. The pair extended their winning streak to 24 matches following their Flight A doubles title. They defeated University of Chicago's Peter Leung/Nicolas Chua 8-5 in the first round before collecting a pair of 8-7 triumphs over Eastern Kentucky's Alex Alvaro/Juanjo de la Liera and DePaul's Sten Luesink/David Vieyra to advance to the finals. There, the sophomore standouts defeated Cleveland State's Colton Buffington/Ali Shabib 8-3.

Heuer dominated singles play on the women's side this past weekend. On Saturday, the sophomore coasted to straight set victories over Aquinas' Tiffany Tuori (6-1, 6-1) and Davenport's Montserrat Elizondo (6-2, 6-1). For an encore, Heuer handed Marian's Veronica Clark a 6-3, 6-1 defeat at No. 4.

On the doubles side, Heuer teamed up with senior Megan Barthels (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central) to open the season 3-0. The tandem recorded an 8-5 win Saturday morning at No. 2 over Aquinas' Remington Gerst/Rilie DuShane before topping Davenport's Montserrat Elizondo/Angelica Woods 8-3 in the afternoon. Heuer and Barthels remained perfect with an 8-5 trumph Sunday versus Marian's Anna & Sarah Potter.
