Crusaders Blank Titans at Valpo Tennis Complex

The Valpo men's tennis team returned to its winning ways Friday afternoon with a 7-0 shutout of the Detroit Titans at the Valpo Tennis Complex.

The Crusaders benefitted from wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles to secure the opening point. 

Charlie Emhardt (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) and Jeffrey Schorsch (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) defeated Ismail Kadyrov/Jay Joshi, 6-2, atop doubles play. Detroit's Chance Conley and Rafael Orantes knotted up the doubles series after their 6-3 win against Lucas Waak (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) and Garrett Gardner (Poland, Ohio/Poland) at No. 3. Chase Hamilton (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) and Dave Bacalla (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) won their fifth doubles match in the last six outings at No. 2 with a hard-fought 6-4 victory against Patryk Koscielski/Nathan Ponton.

Emhardt popped the lid off singles action with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 4 versus Joshi. Schorsch quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Ponton at No. 2.

Kyle Dunn (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) clinched Valpo's 18th win of the season following his 6-2, 6-2 dismissal of Kacper Stelmaszak at No. 5. Waak prevailed in a three-set tiebreaker against Kadyrov at No. 6, 7-5, 2-6, 10-3. 

Bacalla improved to 19-8 in singles play after he rallied back for a 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (1) victory over Koscielski at No. 1. Gardner closed out the day with a 6-4, 7-5 win against Orantes.

Valpo (18-5, 2-1 Horizon) rounded out its home schedule with a 9-1 record. The Crusaders will finish this weekend with a Sunday afternoon match at UIC (5-9, 1-1 Horizon). First serve from the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts is slated for 2:00 pm CT.
